Beach Cafe Company backs water safety campaign

The Venus Cafe will provide catering support for the Wall's Waterwise Water Safety Roadshow when it visits Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth on Sunday & Monday, 18 & 19 August. The roadshow presentation is free to all visitors and runs regularly between 10am & 4.30pm.

The roadshow is organised by campaign co-ordinator John Baker, a former Plymouth school headmaster, and his assistant Derek Hone. It is funded by ice cream manufacturer Bird's Eye Walls Ltd and supported by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency in Devon.

Michael Smith, managing director of The Venus Company, said: "We're delighted to welcome the Walls Waterwise Roadshow back to Blackpool Sands later this month and to provide catering for the team and for visitors".

John Baker said: "Each year we strive to raise the standards of safety awareness within the water leisure industry and I'm convinced that the programme of roadshows and visits to some of the UK's most popular beaches help to achieve that."

"The outlook for 2002 includes closer co-operation with commercial outlets such as The Venus Company and Blackpool Sands, including presentations during peak holiday weekends."

The new-look Wall's Waterwise roadshow will feature a series of dynamic presentations and games to educate children and adult water sports enthusiasts and the do's and don'ts of how to use the water safely. The team teaches them to recognise the significance of various beach safety flags and how to enjoy themselves but at the same time stay safe in the water, whether they are using inflatable airbeds, kayaking, windsurfing, body boarding, surfing, water skiing, wind gliding or just plain swimming!
