10 Great British Beaches
Not the Blackpool with the Tower where the lion ate young Albert, this Blackpool is in South Devon, near Dartmouth.
The 2 most common adjectives used to describe Blackpool Sands are unspoilt and picturesque. Imagine a beach where Devon meets the Caribbean. The secret of its success probably lies in the fact that it is privately owned. You have to pay £5 for an all-day ticket to park your car and enjoy access to the beach and its facilities. But the place is so well run that you would not begrudge a farthing of the charge.
Beach: A crescent of golden coarse sand more than half a mile long backed by thick pine woods - perfect for a family day out.
Water quality: Approved by the Good Beach Guide; Blue Flag; Seaside Award.
Safety: Sea bathing safe: lifeguards on duty from May to September.
Amenities: Well maintained toilets, a beach goods shop and the Venus restaurant with gourmet delights.
