Venus Company supports national windsurfing championship event

Britain's leading beach cafe operator is backing the launch of a new national windsurfing Freewave winter series competition at Devon's leading south coast wave magnet, Bigbury-on-Sea.

The Venus Company of Stoke Fleming near Dartmouth has joined forces with Reactive Watersports of Plymouth and Wall's ice cream to bring the National Windsurfing Freewave competition to Bigbury-on-Sea on 15 & 16 November 2003.

A professional prize purse of £1,000 is up for grabs and there will be various product prizes for the amateur event. Several of the top British and international windsurfers are taking part in the event, which is being organised by Reactive Water Sports.

The Venus Company's managing director Michael Smith said: "Along with Reactive Water Sports, we are delighted to secure for South Devon this major National Windsurfing Freewave Competition.

"All of the major UK windsurfers have been invited to compete in the event, which has £1,000 cash of prize money and many other prizes from the sponsors. We are hoping it will become an annual event for Bigbury-on-Sea and a fixture on the National Windsurfing Freewave circuit."

Dave Ewer of Reactive Water Sports, said: "This is the first big wave competition we have organised at this fantastic venue. All of the pro sailors have heard nothing but great reports from this superb beach, which offers good wave sailing in a variety of winter conditions. We are expecting a good turnout. If we get windy conditions, spectators will be able to see the cream of Britain's wave sailors performing single and even double loops as well as many other spectacular moves in the Bigbury waves."

Bigbury-on-Sea is well known among Devon's sailing fraternity as one of the best areas for windsurfing on the south coast. It delivers good-sized waves on a regular basis. Local holiday parks and camping sites will accommodate the competitiors.

All the action can be viewed from the beach car park or Venus cafe at Bigbury-on-Sea. For more information and netry forms, please contact Dave or Reuben at Reactive Water Sports on 01752 255999.
