Venus to launch first venture in Cornwall

BRITAIN’S leading beach café operator, The Venus Company Ltd, is to invest over £200,000 in its first venture in Cornwall.

The environmental friendly company is opening a new al fresco-style Venus Beach Café and Shop at beautiful Tolcarne Beach in Newquay early this summer. The Venus Company already runs three al fresco beach cafes at Blackpool Sands near Dartmouth, Bigbury-on-Sea and East Portlemouth in the South Hams.

The Venus Company is transforming the ground floor of the new Tolcarne “village” beachside development’s first stage for its fourth Westcountry beach café and second shop outlet. The future development plans also include a further 10 luxury apartments with plans for an all-year round surf school and sea weed baths. The Venus Company will also be opening a bistro at Tolcarne Beach in the old café building.

The move into Newquay comes only a month after the company, which is based in Stoke Fleming in Devon, scooped a national and its second, major environmental award in just six months – the Business Commitment to the Environment Awards.

Michael Smith, managing director of The Venus Company, said: “We have chosen Newquay because of the range of investment and developments happening there and of course, because of the fantastic beaches. We have been looking to invest in Cornwall for some while and the Tolcarne village development provides an ideal site for our first beach café and shop in Cornwall.

“The Venus Company specializes in providing locally produced and organically-grown food and drink in scenic, al fresco-style locations overlooking a beach so this development is a natural one for us.

“It will improve Tolcarne Beach for families by providing them with a range of eating and shopping opportunities right on the beach. Combined with the existing excellent beach huts and water sports this will put Tolcarne right at the top of the list of ‘great family beaches in Newquay’. The second phase of the development will take place this winter, which will then provide much needed modern toilet facilities.

“We have recruited and trained Cornish management and have sourced excellent Cornish products. We are hoping to open a further three or four outlets in Cornwall in the next few years.”

Work on its new investment at Tolcarne Beach is well underway and the Venus Beach Café and Shop are due to open in early June, creating between 20 and 25 new jobs.
