Ivybridge school win £1,000 treasure hunt
£1,000 UNEXPECTED TREASURE WINDFALL FOR IVYBRIDGE SCHOOL
Manor Primary School in Ivybridge has received an unexpected £1,000 cash windfall towards school equipment as a result of brother and sister pupils, Robert and Nicole Grech – Cini winning The Venus Company’s environmental Treasure Our Beaches summer competition.
Robert and Nicole visited the beaches in summer at Bigbury On Sea, Blackpool Sands and East Portlemouth and the museums in Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe with their family to find clues to answer seven local environmental and history questions. Their winning prize draw entry won them £500 towards computer equipment, £150 of Venus vouchers for the family and £1,000 for their school.
At the news of the unexpected presentation this week, shocked acting head teacher Erika Gooding said “It was wonderful news to learn of the prize cash award. I am thrilled for the children and the Grech-Cini family too. For the school, it means that we can now buy some more digital cameras and two more computers to help the young children at Manor Primary School in their school activities. It was a great idea for Venus to link family fun with holiday learning in this way”.
A delighted Robbie Grech-Cini aged 10 said, “I am so excited to win as I have never won anything before. It was great fun following the Venus Treasure Map, especially looking for the clue in Totnes Museum.” Sister, Nicole aged 7 said “ I had lots of fun finding about local history and why beaches are such special places.”
