VENUS AWARDED BEACON STATUS
South Hams-based beach café and shop operator The Venus Company has been selected as one of the 30 new members of the region-wide Beacon South West network. Venus is joined by four other Devon-based companies; toolmakers and manufacturing engineers Alderman Tooling, solicitors Foot Anstey Sargent, broadcast and corporate TV production company Two Four Ltd and Dart Marina Hotel.
Supported by the South West RDA, Beacon South West has quickly attracted interest and numerous requests for membership since its launch in November 2004. Over 75 of the South West’s most progressive, profitable and growing businesses are currently seeking membership. The new members will join a pioneering regional forum, designed to fast-track business growth in the South West by recognising and promoting exemplar businesses, who are willing to share the secrets of their success with the wider business community.
"Beacon status for the Venus Company is an amazing endorsement of our mission to be the greenest beach café and shop operator in Europe" explains Michael Smith, managing director. "As we are continually striving to improve our company performance with environmental and community benefits, I am really looking forward to sharing ideas and experiences with other Beacon companies. This really is great news for all of us at the Venus Company."
Sue Baker, Project Director of Beacon South West, said: “The interest in membership from businesses in Devon has been excellent and demonstrates the high calibre of the area’s business community. We are intentionally selective about our members and only involve businesses with proven achievements and performance. This is to ensure that all members can get real benefit and value out of the network. The Venus Company is a truly exemplar company. As winners of a Business Commitment to the Environment Award in 2004, the company’s care for the local surroundings is well recognised. At Beacon we also realise Venus is a fast growing entrepreneurial company and are delighted to welcome them to the network.”
