Summer fun at Blackpool Sands

ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMER FUN AT BLACKPOOL SANDS

Children visiting Blackpool Sands, near Dartmouth in South Devon this summer holiday are in treat for some unusual, activity days that show them the importance of looking after the environment. Recycle on a Unicycle and a Seaside Special Day of Discovery are two free, exciting events taking place this summer offering educational fun for all the family. And, for the first time, Venus is offering summer alfresco evening dining at The Venus Café at Blackpool Sands.

Recycle on a Unicycle with popular, madcap Professor Elfic the Jester presents “Sort It Out!”- reduce, Re-Use, Recycle on a Unicycle on July 27th, August 14th and August 21st. With enough magic, circus tricks, puppetry and comedy to fill a landfill site, Prof Elfic tackles the serious issue of waste in an amusing way.

On Saturday12th August, a Seaside Special Day of Discovery kicks off with the spectacular, CoolSeas Roadshow. This new, educational initiative by the Marine Conservation Society has its premiere at Blackpool Sands prior to a two year tour of schools that starts this Autumn. The interactive show aims to capture everyone’s imagination with life size inflatable models of a basking shark, dolphins, seals and a leatherback turtle – marine animals often seen off our shores. Other free activities during the day include children’s activities, rock pool rambles, seaside and pond dippings.

“Litter from the sea is an unwelcome visitor to our beaches here in the UK and is seriously harmful to our marine animals” said Sir Geoffrey Newman, Chairman of the Marine Conservation Society and Blackpool Sands beach owner. “I am thrilled to host these fun, family events with their underlying environmental and conservation themes. It’s a great privilege to launch the CoolSeas Roadshow in the South Hams so that schoolchildren and beach going families can enjoy learning about our amazing marine wildlife and the efforts of the Marine Conservation Society to protect and conserve this precious heritage.”
