Free rockpool ramble with Devon Wildlife Trust

Next week sees the first of a range of events run by Devon Wildlife Trust in partnership with Venus, the UK’s award winning and environmentally friendly beach café and shop operator to help promote the marine environment to beach goers and tourists.

The free rockpool ramble; being held on 18 April at 12pm; has been planned to give people the chance to explore the special beach and marine wildlife habitats at Blackpool Sands, South Devon.

The event is the first of many planned over the next five years to raise awareness of the flora and fauna that inhabit the ocean, shoreline and beach at Blackpool Sands as well as Venus’ other cafes at Bigbury On Sea and East Portlemouth. The activities are funded through the Venus Beach Wildlife Fund which will raise a minimum of £25,000 over the period.

Cat Ridout DWT’s Marine Awareness Officer for Wembury Marine Centre who is running the event said: ‘I’m excited to be involved with the Venus Beach Wildlife Project and looking forward to running the first event at Blackpool Sands. On the day I hope we will see edible crabs, blennies, velvet swimming crabs and Cornish sucker fish. All are welcome to join in and learn more about Devon's amazing marine environment.’

Michael Smith, Venus managing director said: “We set up the Venus Beach Wildlife Fund so that our customers can support the Venus ethos of Loving the Beach for everyone’s enjoyment now and in the future. This event is a great start to the programme being planned with the Devon Wildlife Trust.”
