Build a bird box
Come and make a bird box on Wednesday, 20th February at Blackpool Sands during National Nest Box Week, is the rallying conservation cry from Devon Wildlife Trust and Venus to families during Devon schools half term week.
The free event, for which booking is essential, is supported by the Venus Beach Wildlife Fund and allows people to book a slot to come along and learn how to make a bird box. An expert from Devon Wildlife Trust will also be on hand to talk about the bird life at Blackpool Sands.
The Venus Beach Wildlife Fund is a unique agreement between the Venus Cafes and the Devon and Cornwall Wildlife Trusts to raise awareness and help protect the special nature of the beach and marine wildlife habitats at the beaches where Venus has a presence in Devon and Cornwall.
Michael Smith, Venus managing director explains how the scheme works: “Our customers can support the Venus ethos of Loving the Beach for everyone’s enjoyment now and in the future. We donate 5p on their behalf for each cup of tea and chocolate flake bought and are well on target to raise up to £25,000 over five years to support conservation activities on the beach and with local schools.”
The Build a Bird Box event is being organised by Devon Wildlife Trust’s Marine Awareness Officer Cat Ridout: “It’s going to be an informative and fun day out for families who want to encourage more birds into their gardens at home. In the afternoon, those who have booked a “Build a Bird Box slot, can also visit Blackpool Gardens with a guide to listen to bird song and look out for different bird species.”
For more information and to book a place during the day from 11.00am to 3.00pm, please contact Wembury Marine Centre on 01752 862538.
